Texans' night out

Such a lovely afternoon. A cool, breezy day. To celebrate the beginning of the weekend, a few other guys and I decided to get together and do a random good deed -- just us Texans. We decided to be clandestine about it, though; we left campus without announcement this afternoon. Unfortunately, Scott saw us as we pulled away from the apartments; we were most amused by the baffled expression on his face.

We laughed uproariously about our secret as we drove to Grace Community Chapel. When we got there, we found the little white building packed with people. We were all there to train for the church's Halloween alternative, "Repentance Castle."

Like all the other volunteers (mainly ETBU faculty), we spent our time in the first workshop learning how to design an appropriate costume. I decided to dress as W. G. T. Shedd, although it was difficult choosing between Shedd and Maimonides (someone eventually pointed out that Maimonides worked for the competition). The second workshop was even more fun; we learned how to use Chick tracts effectively to expose the evils of the Jesuits (by the way, Gallagher will make a splendid warrior monk, and Randy should be most impressive as the devil tormenting him with a copy of The Babylonian Captivity of the Church). Unfortunately, we had to leave before the third workshop (proper candy dispersal techniques), in order to be back on campus in time to finish up Shaw's Man and Superman.

It was a great experience -- especially because I was able to meet a really cute Mennonite girl. I exchanged phone numbers with her father.

There was no Mennonite. Read the other blogs for the real story.
