I Need One

I've been saying for a long time that if someone could get the FCC to approve signal-jamming equipment for cell phones in specific areas, life would be good. I doubt they will, but that's not such a problem in situations like this. You know... maybe I'll just get one anyways if I ever own a restaurant.

My take on it: Develop an industry standard for "quite areas" where a signal broadcast throughout a certain area causes a phone to automatically go into quite mode. Buy the setting to disable the feature so deep within the phone's archaic menu structure that your average dumbass american will never find it. Emergency workers (firemen, doctors, police, etc.) need there phones and pagers, even at churh. If you *really* wanna disable cell phones legally in the US, just build metal screen into the walls and doors of your building; you'll be able to create a good enough faraday cage to disable the lion's share of the phones within.
