I think it would be most useful and valuable to establish an "Honors" Nexus page here for the Shadow Council and other members of the Honors program, for the purpose of keeping track of relevant data on one another ... like e-mail accounts, addresses, current locations, stuff like that. I think it would be a good idea to encrypt this page somehow, so that only people with a password can view it (or perhaps only people with a password will be able to decrypt it). It should also have a "wish list" - people whose addresses (or other information) we want.
One other thought I had is that Master Cynic should, if possible, set up a Pay-Pal account accessible from his page that we can use to pay our quarterly "dues" and stuff. And donate to if we feel sorry for the man.
Thoughts, anyone?

I have a strange feeling that the SC will be the only people using the proposed nexus.
Posted by: Wilson at May 10, 2005 09:42 PMThis is a very good idea. Such a good idea, in fact, that the Alumni Office of Letourneau was formed to do exactly this (sans giving Scholl money.)
Check it out at:
http://www.letu.edu/opencms/opencms/_Alumni/
There are several problems I have with using the alumni system:
1) They update sporadically
2) It's controlled by LU (just a paranoia thing)
3) They're not all about giving me money
I'm proposing that we put something tied into the SC.org log-in system or something like that and give everyone accounts so that we can get everyone on.
This would involve effort, I'll admit... and I'm not really in a position to be doing serious coding for a while. So I'm going to suggest that one of you single and less occupied people (read: Moore or Gallagher) get to work on a proposal. Put down the side programming projects and get researching.

I, uh ... forgot about the Alumnus Office. I'll have to see how good their data banks are.
Regarding Wilson's point about only SC members using the Nexus, he's quite right. But we may be contacted at various times by fellow Honors people wanting to find one another; it could be useful to become the unofficial "go to" site for linking Honors people post-graduation.
And nobody's commented on the PayPal idea yet ...
Posted by: Leatherwood at May 13, 2005 06:15 PMThis seemed the most appropriate place to make the request... I'm trying to get in touch with Wilson or someone else who has taken Renate's class on the social background of the New Testament and has a copy of the social science commentary of the Synoptic Gospels. Ideally this person would also be willing to scan the sections on hospitality and meals and email them to me... along with the information needed for bibliography.
If this request is completely innappropriate, don't worry, it'll never come up again. The bibliography is just due tonight, the nearest "critical commentary" is presumably an hour away at the closed library of a school I'm not attending, the most recent book on Romans (the epistle or the culture) from the local library is circa 1975, and Renate likes recent critical commentaries. (not that I can blame her)
Taken care of.
Posted by: Wilson at June 19, 2005 07:22 PMI like the Honors nexus idea. Would it be open to those not in your cohort?
Posted by: JoshUA at September 22, 2005 08:38 PMI have a funny feeling that nothing's going to come of this suggestion, although I could be wrong. The "honors" program is where LETU's good ideas come to be born and die.
The SC has proven itself fairly good at organizing things for its own members, but the SC does not represent the entire program. We've had a hard time reaching out beyond our own membership.
That said, if the idea of such a "nexus" would appeal to students across the program, I think the SC would certainly be willing to lend a hand.
Posted by: Wilson at September 22, 2005 09:17 PMTrue, it seems like that is the truth of the "Honors" program...a conceptual blackhole...tragic.
How does one join in fellowship with the highly regarded SC?
Posted by: JoshUA at September 22, 2005 10:29 PMThat ... is a very good question. I'm not sure it has an answer. First, I advise getting to know the current members to make sure you can tolerate them. Many people cannot.
Posted by: Wilson at September 22, 2005 11:05 PMYou need a sponsor, Murray's approval, knowledge of the secret handshake, a picture of Ardith on a computer running Windows and a picture of Wilson in shorts... bonus points if it's the same picture.
Oh yeah, and you need signatures... lots of signatures.
